Item to watch for: Kitchenaid Mixer Attachments

KitchenAid KSM150PSWH Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, White
When you are poking around at estate sales make a beeline for the kitchen. Those old metal Kitchenaid mixer attachments are worth a fortune! This seller sold a pelican grinder for $211.19, & here is a meat grinder that sold for $227.50. I recently bought one of these newer food grinder attachments for $3 at a resale shop. They do not sell quite as high, they aren't made as tough as the old ones. I am hanging on to it for a while. I want a Kitchenaid mixer of my own to play with :)

The bowls, beaters, covers etc. are worth listing too if you just find those.

Item to watch for: Reynolds Handi-Vac & Bags

Reynolds Consumer Produ Handi Vac Bag Gallon 00591, 9 CountThis item has been discontinued by the manufacturer. If you have any of the bags left or are not using your unit you may want to list it. As high as they seem to be going you may could buy at retail price locally to sell if you see any left in your local stores. This is a link to recent completed auctions sorted from highest to lowest.

Item to watch for: Ralph Lauren

Ok so I am surprised at this one. I always watch for RL items as they are ridiculously expensive to begin with so they usually have a good eBay resale value. If I saw this item at a yard sale I would have bought it were it just a couple of bucks and clean. I would never have guessed it would have been worth anywhere near what this item sold for! I guess the seller knew, as it appears to be a BIN item rather than an auction. $1200 for a used ball cap? This is an item I would have likely have started at .99 then I would have fainted as the bids came rolling in. Link to completed auction.

Selling Tip: Retail To Sell?

Is it possible to buy new things at retail stores to sell? Absolutely! I talked about the great Amazon deals earlier. One of my favorite brick-and-mortar places to do this is JCPenney. On the back of every receipt is a code good for 15% off your next purchase. You enter it online and print off the coupon. This can be combined with the "10% off any item when you use your JCP card" deals too as that is automatic and doesn't require a coupon.
Every January or early February they have really big clearance sales. Toward the very end of the clearance they mark things 75% off the retail price or more. There is usually one rack in each department that has items marked to .99 cents! That beats yard sale prices and the items are brand new! The coupons really make it a steal.
Get into the habit of checking the clearance aisle/bin in every store you go in to. If you have internet on your phone you can always check completed auctions to get an idea of what you could sell it for.

Item to watch for: Trivial Pursuit

Trivial Pursuit games seem to be good sellers. I noticed that Amazon had Trivial Pursuit: 6th Edition for $219.99 in the brown box. A quick check on eBay reveals the 6th edition in the red box sells for $10-$55. Link to red box 6th edition sales. This is an item I would put in your eBay store at $60 and use the "make offers" choice if I had a red and of course a brown one would go on Amazon. Other editions have varying prices.

Item to buy: Megarig Pirate Ship

MATCHBOX Mega Rig Pirates Ship [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging]I noticed these Megarig Pirate Ship toys at $9.99, free shipping with a $25 order. They were $39.99.  If you need inventory this is a good deal. Put them away until next October for Christmas sales or put them in your eBay store at full price with a "make offer" option. Recent completed prices at eBay varied between $25- $40 until this deal started, not including shipping.

Selling Tip: Other Places To Sell - Amazon

If I find a new/sealed item for a bargain I check both Amazon and eBay to compare selling prices. Amazon can be a great place to sell brand new items. It only takes seconds to list, and Amazon provides the picture. Listing is free, you pay fees if/when your item sells. You do not get to pick how much shipping will be. Amazon will tell you before you list what you will be paid to ship. The items I have sold shipped for less than what I was paid to ship them. It isn't as thrilling to me as watching bids go up and up on eBay. It is much less work though, so I will continue to sell there too. Should you get a new but nonreturnable gift you can't use this holiday, consider listing it on Amazon. Search for your items in the box to the right to see what it sells for!

Item to watch for: Z-Coil Shoes

If you spot these at a yard sale or thrift store pick them up. The prices in the link are all for USED Z-Coil shoes. They are expensive new, and a lot of nurses swear by them. I had no idea used shoes could be worth anything. The price obviously varies a lot depending on size, condition, and style. Recently sellers seem to be getting $25-$150.00 for ended auctions. I have never spotted shoes at a yard sale priced for more than a couple of dollars. That's a great profit margin! Link to completed auctions.

Item to watch for: Avatar Toys & Figures

I have a confession to make, please don't tell my two boys: I do not like action figures. They have little parts and pieces to step on and keep up with. Each one has some whack-ado name and "specialty" the kids think is important to know. Every time a new cartoon or movie comes out we have to start over with a new pile of them. UGH.
They don't outgrow them as adults, either. I know plenty of grown men with action figures in a closet that they call an investment. I thought they were just as whack-ado as the figure names until I saw this sale.

There is a new Avatar movie. It is supposed to be great. Avatar toys and figures are selling like hotcakes. If your kids no longer play with theirs or you see them at tag sales get them. That goes for nearly all action figures. They all seem to retain some value. This lot sold for $235.00! I bet the seller that sold this danced all the way to the mailbox! Link to sold item

Item to watch for: Ugly Christmas Sweaters

The uglier the sweater the better! When you see ugly tacky Christmas sweaters in adult sizes at yard sales or thrift stores for cheap GET THEM! Store them until October then list. I will admit it is embarrassing to purchase some stuff. :) Blush all the way to the bank, I say! Many businesses have competitions at the annual parties for the ugliest sweater. A quick check of completed auctions & you can see some of them sell for more than $100! Here is one that sold for $150, it is new with the tags though. (it is not my auction I just picked a sweater at random)Link to completed auction

Item to watch for: Cross Stitch Leaflets

I found a box of old cross stitch stuff in my garage. I am determined to get that garage cleaned out & stop storing ebay stuff in there. In a box was a pile of cross stitch pattern leaflets. I looked a few of them up & most weren't worth much at all. I thought I would put them all in a lot & start the auction at $4.99. I didn't want them, and debated just throwing them away. Then I noticed there were three by the same person. Thinking they would perhaps be worth something listed together I started searching.

WHOO HOO BABY! They are goodies! I listed them separately, the final prices being $37.95, $19, & $10.05. That's $67 bucks (not subtracting the fees) for something I nearly threw away! Just goes to show you should NEVER throw away stuff without looking it up first. They are by Charles Wysocki. They were only about $4 new. Each had only 4 or so patterns. I have no idea why the interest, but I am thankful.

About Me

I started selling on eBay over ten years ago just to see if I was smart enough to do it. Back then there wasn't software listing helpers etc - most items didn't even have pictures! Our first item listed was a chipped astronaut coin bank. It sold for around $100 and I was hooked!  I am also a nurse, mom, sister - like most women I wear many hats. I hope you have fun here - enjoy!
