Breaking Up Is Hard To Do....

I love to buy sets of China. I promptly break them up into lots. Then I feel guilty about separating them. Isn't that silly?  When they sell I think about the grandmother they once belonged to. Was this her prized china? Did she eat on it or was it stored in in a cabinet  because it was too nice to use? Would she be sad, or would she find it amusing to know that her gravy boat is in Japan while her butter pat is in Tennessee? I am  a goofball, I know.

I especially love to buy china with completer pieces. One of the biggest profits we had was from some  fancy-pants china I bought at an estate sale. I bought a few pieces then decided (poor decision) I had spent enough money for the day and let the rest go. It turns out that those few pieces were rare & would sell for $250 each. I was thrilled with that but kicking myself for not buying it all.

I look for completer pieces when buying. Casseroles, creamers, sugar bowls, salt and peppers, platters, & vegetable bowls sell best for me. Plates are usually not money makers. Shipping is too high.  I did sell 9 dessert plates recently. They only sold for $15 but I think we paid $30 for the set & broke that into individual lots. There are 8 more lots of it yet to sell. If all 8 sell for that amount I will be happily shopping for more. (& worrying about another grandma lol)
