What's Up With This - Old Navy? Really?

This is not a dig at Old Navy. I own several things from there. I am stumped about this bear, however. I noticed a thread on one of the eBay boards about it. You can learn a lot from those boards but they are hard to navigate. Was it a promotional item? Is it especially soft? Perhaps I am so attuned to shopping for traditional collectibles that I just don't think about Old Navy items as "wanted."  I will be watching for these at yard sales this year. The last two sold on eBay for $27.99 & $29.99. Does anyone know what they sold for new in stores? I was unable to find a royalty-free picture, so you will have to check out the completed auctions to see it.  Click to see completed auctions.

Fun Find - Lenox Poppies On Blue

A quick trip to the flea this morning initially appeared disappointing. We bought only one item. I picked up this divided serving dish for $6.  I have sold Poppies On Blue before, with good results. I thought perhaps I would get $25-$35 for it. Imagine my surprise when the only two listed on eBay are priced at $120 & $99. Yeah! I promptly added mine to our eBay store for $94.99 with "accept best offer" checked. This is a feature I use often. It works well if you are flexible with the final selling
price.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do....

I love to buy sets of China. I promptly break them up into lots. Then I feel guilty about separating them. Isn't that silly?  When they sell I think about the grandmother they once belonged to. Was this her prized china? Did she eat on it or was it stored in in a cabinet  because it was too nice to use? Would she be sad, or would she find it amusing to know that her gravy boat is in Japan while her butter pat is in Tennessee? I am  a goofball, I know.

I especially love to buy china with completer pieces. One of the biggest profits we had was from some  fancy-pants china I bought at an estate sale. I bought a few pieces then decided (poor decision) I had spent enough money for the day and let the rest go. It turns out that those few pieces were rare & would sell for $250 each. I was thrilled with that but kicking myself for not buying it all.

I look for completer pieces when buying. Casseroles, creamers, sugar bowls, salt and peppers, platters, & vegetable bowls sell best for me. Plates are usually not money makers. Shipping is too high.  I did sell 9 dessert plates recently. They only sold for $15 but I think we paid $30 for the set & broke that into individual lots. There are 8 more lots of it yet to sell. If all 8 sell for that amount I will be happily shopping for more. (& worrying about another grandma lol)

A Few Recent Finds

Want to see what we have found lately to list? I am having a bit of trouble getting my old stuff into the new computer. I had auctions ready to start tonight but they failed when I tried to list them. I have a setting wrong somewhere. I will try again tomorrow. These are a few of the items that I have ready to go.

This old oak piano stool was a steal at $10. Isn't it neat? You spin the top to raise/lower the seat. I have seen them with ball & claw feet for around $100. Mine has plain feet, so will sell for less. I really like this one.

Blog Redesign & Thanks For Your Patience

Thanks so much for your patience during the blog redesign. I love it! Lois @ Sassy Melon Designs made it for me. She did a great job, is friendly, and worked quickly. If you need a blog design, button, or ad take a look!

In addition to the redesign I spilled coffee in my laptop and fried the keyboard. Smart, huh? I am trying to get my auction stuff moved out it it and into another laptop so I can resume listing today. In the meantime, feel free to let me know what you think of our new design!

Percolator Oopsie Turned Into $$

Vintage Blue Cornflower 10 Cup Electric Percolator w/ Cord By CorningI recently picked up a Corningware percolator at an estate sale. I remembered seeing decent prices for them in completed auctions. Or so I thought. I brought it home and  listed it.

Uh oh. Apparently it was once part of a recall. eBay ended my auction. So what to do?

I noticed some sellers do not sell the pot, just the insides. The pot was the part recalled. The handle came off of some of the earlier models. After that they put screws in them, but eBay won't let you sell any, screw or not. The parts are allowed but do not sell for much. You can bet that behind the scenes the buyers are asking if the seller will ship the pot with the parts.

After poking around I saw that several have sold on Bonanzle, so they must not ban them there. Then I checked Amazon. There were two listed, for $69.95. I needed mine to sell fast. I have stuff everywhere and I want it gone, not waiting around here forever. So I listed mine for $44.99. This made mine look like a bargain next to the others. It sold within 24 hours!!! Item sold for $44.99, Amazon commission was $8.79, less the $3 I paid for it = $33.20.
