Estate Auction Finds From Last Weekend

Estate auctions are sometimes hard for me. There is usually family there bidding for what they want. If I am aware that a family member is bidding I do not bid. I assume they are having a hard enough time seeing a loved ones things spread out on tables the yard. There are often tears, & sometimes family squabbles. I knew the people that had owned this estate. The husband had been one of my Pa's (grandpa) best friends. The wife had been my Nanny's (grandma) friend. None of the family was bidding that I am aware of.

Among other things I bought two boxes of cookbooks. I was quite shocked to see handwritten notes, recipes, and letters tucked into them. A whole stack. They were not hidden, you could see them spilling out of the pages. There was one cookbook that was blank and she had written her best recipes in it. There was a daughter there, a granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter. I cannot imagine why they didn't want to keep/bid on these. I bought a Betty Crocker Red Pie Cookbook, it will go on eBay. The lovely stack of handwritten recipes and notes I gave to my Nanny. We bought 4 metal lawn chairs, jewelry, & misc kitchenware.

I love finding old cookbooks with
handwritten recipes tucked inside,
especially if they belong to family
or someone I know.
drooling over the costume jewelry!
