Fun Find - Watt Pottery Rooster Mug
Friday morning I drove the boys to school while Mama went to a yard sale. She called me on cloud 9 - they had a bunch of coffee mugs for $3 a box. She bought about 15 milk glass mugs, mostly Fire King. She also bought a Fire King Tulips shaker, & a grease jar. She said they had a lot more mugs so we went back to take another look.
The lady having the sale said mugs were now $1 a box. No mix/match you had to take everything in the box. Of course each box had one or two I wanted. I bought all of them. Sixteen boxes of coffee mugs! It took me an hour or so to look them all up. Out of those sixteen boxes I kept maybe fifteen more mugs. The rest - about 100 mugs - I put out by the street. They were gone in about five minutes.
When I saw this fabulous Watt rooster mug I was so excited! I love Watt pottery, it always sells well. I told myself GREAT that is probably $30 bucks or so. It has advertising so maybe $50. WRONG. The only one listed on eBay is at $799!!!! I nearly fell over from shock. Then I thought well maybe it isn't worth all that much the seller could be just a newbie, or a quack. I do not have a Watt book. I Googled and found nothing. I then posted on the eBay pottery and glass forum asking about mine. They were quick to link me to this site that is supposed to have fairly accurate online estimations of worth. They have a rooster pattern mug valued at $800.
I haven't cleaned mine or listed it yet. I am still looking at it and shaking my head in disbelief. I am not sure yet if the advertising will add or detract from the value. If you spot one anywhere, grab it! Mine does not say Watt on the bottom. Not all Watt is marked but it is very recognizable I think. The bottom of mine looks like this:
I am linking with Apron Thrift Girl, Coastal Charm, Bloggerativille, Her Library Adventures, Southern Hospitality, The Thrifty Groove, & My Uncommon Slice of Surburbia. The buttons for all of these great blogs are to the right.
